buying a used boat

Hi, I'm new with boat angling and I want to choose one for me. Few questions there:
Better buy in Ireland or England, I think England is cheaper, but ferry..
How can I avoid fraud..
If you can help me with finding any moorings or boat storage beside Howth (Dublin, Dun Laoghaire) - will be great
I have only B category to tow a boat not more than 750 kilos, so I can't ((
I know a web site donedeal.ie - boats in ireland, probably someone knows something else, I want to buy a boat within ~5 days

Why

The worst thing you could do is rush into a purchase.
Decide first what use you will make of the boat and how much you can spend.
where you will fish
will you be towing a lot?
how many people will be on board usually.
How much have you got to spend initially
Moorings in Dun Laoghaire will cost almost €400 per metre of length per year.
Cost of running a boat per year can also be expensive, petrol, bait, fishing gear, engine service, anti fouling etc, etc
Not trying to put you off but a bit of thought now could save you in the future.
You could also look on www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk
Go to your nearest harbour and chat with lads bringing boats back in maybe give them a hand to retrieve the boat would be a good start.

I can spend on boat not more than 4000 Euro. I will tow it every time I go fish
I'd like to at least 4 people on board... And I am looking for a boat about 3 weeks already I think I will be launching a boat at Howth, that's the best place I can find for that.

my advice dont rush into buying just any boat.i bought mine off a man in pembroke in eng,for 2k ,took a chance but i knew it needed tiding up trailer was good but i replaced the transom which was very weak (350 euro).it had a 40hp yamaha autolube which was running on one cylinder sold that for scrap got €300 and after a bit of shouting down the phone the owner send me over 300sterling to make up the difference.i picked up a 1997 40 hp honda 4stroke and it running like a dream.i got so fed up at the start with engines and few bits not working that i put it all up for sale a few times,since i got the honda ive had very few problems.so engines are the most important thing i recon,you dont want to be stuck 10+miles out with dodgy engine .i always bring the small yamaha malta as back up.best of luck with it.mines a 18ft dory very steady with a tri hull,got caught out in very rough seas and she held her own very well,ive great confidence in the whole pockage now,

It goes with marine radio, fishfinder (worth 350 euro), Anchor, chains and rope, 2 life jackets, 2 waterproof jackets, the engine just has been serviced. He started it with no problem. 2 bilge pumps. He selling this boat to me because all of his friends gone and he had changed his priority to Lake\river fishing. When I went to see this boat he just arrived from fishing competitions last weekend. I know we he leave, so I can find him easily

get the engine checked by marine mechanic. anything else will be cosmetic. looks like it has been looked after in the photos
try an offer of 3000 to test the water

18 ft, newly painted, 1 outboard engine 60hp in very good condition, Ready to go fishing macerel, suitable for 4-5 people, galvanized trailer with rollers included, new bearing, good tyres, cabin, battery, tank&pump for petrol. Very good price for such type of boat. Sea test for real clients on Saturday in Skerries. ONO. Reason for sale - bought a new one, no space.

If your based in/around Dublin, getting the ferry to HolyHead or Pembroke is no hassle - over and back same day.

Ring, not internet, all the ferry operators - can't remember which company but one does a 24hr return ticket for 65e-70e

Google boatshedwales and see what they got.

** if you are buying privately, ask to see what oil they use, if its not specific outboard oil, walk away - it will give you an indication of how well they treated the engine**, obviously if they don't use a barrell, don't touch, let the engine run for 20mins, if its a good engine, seller wont mind, and put into all gears, listen to reverse for grinding or a tick-tick when in neutral, it means the pistons are on the way out,

woulldent hang round till sat bring a mechanic out with you and snap it up looks very tastey the owner has spent time and money doing out that boat all that light plate is very exspensive. so i would get there first

Belongs to a friend of mine, its a fine package, he will give sea trials and there is bound to be a bit of room for manoeuvre on price at this stage I'm sure. Its a bargain at the price and Im amazed it hasnt been snapped up already. Boat itself is only 2 years old, super seaworthy and the trailer hasnt seen water a dozen times..

It's too expensive for me now.
Today we've tested the second one boat.. Tried to star engine 1 hour And after we started it smoke appears around - engine cooling was not working, It's not stable on the water - one step left-right can turn over the boat So I can forget about it.
The first one (on the pictures) much better anyway. The lad didn't use the boat for a 6 months and when I acked him to start engine it starts in a few seconds and running very well. The trailer is really old enough, but I can renew it .. I think. Many extras there as well. Have no more choises at the moment, so it will be my first boat anyway..
