People:Me

Duration:2130 - 0100

Tide:rising (HW @ 2340)

Weather:dry, slight breeze

Bait:mack, prawns, lug

Rigs:3 hook flappers

Results:1 Pollack, 1 Poor Cod (I think! Might have been a Pout!)

Report:

Arrived down to find around 6 people fishing, so I set up at the only available space at the ralings, closest to the lifeboat. Got 2 rods cast out, and had a pollack after about 30 mins. Not another touch the rest of the night, until I was packing up, and had a knock on the 2nd rod, which turned out to be a Poor Cod/Pout. I remember being told that the way to tell the difference was that one of them left scales on your fingers if you ran them up the fish from the tail to the gills. However, having checked various angling sites, some say that the poor cod leaves scales, and some say its the Pout. (the fish in question left golden scales on my fingers) Maybe someone on here could put me right ( a new species is riding on it if it was a poor cod!).

Only other points of interest was a guy snapping his rod pulling out of a snag, and Ronnie from the site catching a cracking Pollack of about 3lb off the back wall.

Can be difficult enough to determine the difference, here's a pic of a poor cod I had earlier in the year.
