North Wexford Beach. 8th of August.

#1 Post by Davebouy »

People:Myself & the Nephews.

Duration:21.00 to 1am

Tide:On the drop

Weather:Perfect

Bait:Rag, Lug, Mackeral & Squid

Rigs:3 Hook Flappers & 2 Hook Clip Down

Results: 2 Smoothies, 8 Doggies, Codling, Flounder, Whiting & a small Ray.

Report: My eldest nephew decided he would like to try his hand at fishing this weekend so I dug out a spare rod for him and with the other 3 in tow we headed for the beach for a cast. After casting out there was the expected 100 questions to be answered and while I was explaining 1 thing or the other my rod got a massive bang and I landed a good smoothie. This blew my nephew away and he started to pay more attention to his rod tip. After releasing the smoothie, I baited up again and cast out. My rod was only back in the stand when I struck another smoothie which fought for all it was worth. After landing it, getting a photo and putting it back I noticed that the nephew was beginning to look a little worried and was afraid he might not catch anything. This thankfully was not the case as about 3/4 of a hour later he landed his first fish which turned out to be a doggie. Himself and the other boys were delighted and I now think he is hooked and is already making plans for next weekend. We fished on for the rest of the night and managed to catch a good few fish while getting our hooks stripped by the numerous whiting that were about. Just as we were getting ready to head back to the mobile I caught a small ray which I was delighted with as none have been caught on this beach for a very long time. Maybe things are changing for the good. Here's hoping.
I am posting a few of the pictures and I think the boy's look happy with the craic they had. :D :D
