Beginners questions

#1 Post by collie21 »

Hi,
I know not a lot about fishing, other than stick the bait on a hook and cast!. Recently with my son, we went fishing we cast out into the sea. Waited a while and reeled in. We caught nothing. In a river escapade, we stuck our maggots on the hook, cast out, and caught an eventually caught a small eel. We were trying to get carp. There was a guy about a 100 yards from us was getting a fish every half hour.
So my question is this, What the heck are we doing wrong, or what should we be doing, to have a successful fishing trip down by the coast?
Just for information sake, I am in the south of France for the forseeable future. So we are fishing either off piers or rocks into the med. 8)

carp is a freshwater fish so you were probably using wrong tactics,if you see someone catching go down and have a look at what baits rigs etc there using and copy, good luck.

Welcome to the site - there are plenty of really good books out there to help both you and your son - amazon [used] has them in bucket fulls. Suggest buying a couple and you'll improve your success rate - we're all learning:)
