I took my new Akios reel out for a few casts last night. Then half way through my 5th cast it clicked back into gear and made a crunching sound. Now the handle spins both ways, not impressed at all

It should not have went back into gear by itself! they have upgraded the spool release springs to stop this happening,,, I've had my ones doen the beach for the last few weeks thrashing them and had no probs at all.
Where did you buy it??

It shouldn't happen but occasionally can on all reels with push button release.
Are you're certain you didn't tip the handle when casting and engage it? I've never had a reel do it of it's own accord.

Another point worth mentioning for all push button release reels is not to have the drag locked down too tight, if there is some play and the reel engages line can still leave the spool and not mangle the gears or have the lead come back at you.

Hope it gets sorted either way.
