What is the considered opinion of Beach casters here regarding taping up the rod Joints ?
Must do ? All Rods ? only certain types ?
Joints to be waxed or just clean ?
Just cracked my 12 ft amorphous Whisker Salmon rod and it was taped at the time. casting small spoon if you can believe.

Re: Rod Joints Tape em up or not
Rod was bought from Frank at the Tackle shop in Cork about 12 years ago, a great shop
and a great guy sadly missed now.
Originally bought for Salmon but I cant bring myself to fish for them any more so
its (was ) relegated to Spinning / Light bait for Mackeral and Bass.
First and absolutely last piece of Daiwa tackle I will ever buy.
I seem to remember it was £250 Irish Pounds.
The only Rod I ever broke in 45 years fishing ( except for Car doors)
On the plus side the reel on the Rod was an old ABU 521 XLT Synchro MAG
which is about 20 years old and still has its
life time warranty. It took years to learn how how to master this and I finally cracked it. Just dont try and cast a light Plug with this multiplier especially not into the wind, Mag or no mag.

Re: Rod Joints Tape em up or not
Never owned a Daiwa reel so dont know how it compares to Shimano for instance.
Expect Daiwa reels dont come from Scotland factory.
I only criticised Daiwa Policy and actions regarding the Amorphous Whisker
rod which cracked in the same place twice.
First time was the first day out with the brand new rod, last time was 3 weeks ago.
A fly rod gets a lot more cycling than a spinning Rod and I never had a fly rod crack nor break.
In my opinion the Daiwa Osprey amorphous whisker 12 ft Salmon Bait spin is not fit for its purpose, was not designed and tested properly or they just gave me a Lemon.

have a whisker 11ft spin myself, no problems with it, does it job just fine?!
is it just the amorphous that there are problems with or all whisker rods??

Re: Rod Joints Tape em up or not
I've used a Diawa True Flight for the past few years and although its not the best action i've felt from a rod it hasn't caused me a bit of trouble and I'm pretty happy with it. Saying that my first Diawa rod didn't get on to well with my car door, when I went to get a new top section they had discontinued that particular rod but they gave me the True Flight for half price

Re: Rod Joints Tape em up or not
Anyone who knows anything about competitive boat angling will tell you that the Daiwa Whisker boat rods (now discontinued) were the best built and most reliable rod on the market. I have four of them and have never had an issue with them. Also I never saw one break and I have seen alot of these rods used and abused. I dont no how often you used the rod but if you got 12 years out of it I wouldnt consider that bad. If it broke at the spigot it is more than likely that the rod got damaged in transit and only needed the force from casting to finish it off.

Hi Dangler,
Just because the rod was 12 years old doesnt mean it got 12 years hard use
the opposite is more the case as I stopped Salmon fishing for the last 8 years.
I am glad you are happy with your rods, and no I dont know anything about boat fishing
except that you wouldnt be very popular turning up with a 12ft road to go out on a boat.
I also despise fishing competitions.
