Wicklow 25/07/10

#1 Post by Kgarr »

People:myself and massa J

Duration:22.00-4.00

Tide:1hr before HT

Weather:Warm, no wind

Bait:rag with razor clam tip

Rigs:3 hook flapper

Results:Dab, Whiting, Pollack, weever, Dogs, Smooth hound, Starry smooth hound

Report:Very lastminute.com fishin trip, but one to remember. Finished work early and hit SSangling for some rags. Picked massa J up and hammered down the n11 to wicklow.
Caught lots of smaller fish at the begining of the night, a few decent sized dab, Massa J was very pleased with his first ever doggie about 12.00.
About 1.00 I experienced something I've never experienced fishing before, I watched my rod in disbelief as it was torn out of its stand and dragged into the sea! I picked up my jaw, and dashed after it, managed to grab it before it hit the water, I then heard something I've never heard before( a night of many of firsts!) my line was screaming off the reel! Couldn't belive it!! Reeled in as best I could, There was a big fish on, no mistaking it. I managed to get the fish to the surf edge but from there had to walk it back up the strand to beach it.
My first smooth hound! I will never forget it! they are really strong fish! Let him back after a few snaps, happy as a dog with two mickey's! :D Why can't I catch a fish like this in a comp!
on the next cast I had a slightly smaller starry hound and a dog at the same time, this team were tough work to land!. Gave it up at 4ish, had to sleep.
