unknown mayo mark.01-08-2010

#1 Post by saving private brian »

People; myself and eskimo off here

Duration; 16.00pm - 22.30pm

Tide. lw @16.15pm so was filling

Weather; perfect

Bait; macks,lugs,sandeel,mussel.razors and peelers

Rigs; floats,flappers,pulleys and spinners

Result; seatrout.pollock and coalies

Report; met eskimo in town on sat nite and we discussed a session over a few pints for sunday.so he rang me this morning and he told me about this unkown beach in mayo that he wanted to try so we got all our gear and bait and headed for this brand new and probably never fished mark.its a hidden beach with a gud trek to it.i cudnt believe this palce even exsisted.i had all the good qualities to be a fantastic mark so i was excited.to get to it thou we had to go down a great steep descent and was a bit nerve racking for as as 1 slip and all cud be lost.we managed to get down with extreme care.we decided then to fish from a ledge and and cast in to the sand.there was parts of weed around but didnt effect us as the day was sunny and we cud see the weed.the place looked more like a place out in the costa del sol. fantastic mark.so we set up and started to fish.it was quiet for the first half on the baits.got some small coalies so eskimo tryed the spinners which worked better for pollock.so i changed 1 rod to spinners and we both pulled in some small pollock.they were plentiful.eskimo got 2 gud decent sized ones.1 maybe 5lb and the other 3 1/2lb.eskimo reeled in to wat he taught was a pollock, then as it came closer on the surface we taught was a mackerel but then to realise it was a seatrout to a weight of 1lb.we were surprised but happy to know they were there..after that we both pulled loads of wee pollock.i went back to me van at one stage to get some bread rolls i forgot to bring the first time .i was now coming aware to the dangers of gettin back up.very dangerous.so when i got back down to him i suggested we leave there before dark as we had planned to stay till 1-2 am.i really believe night time on this mark wud produce.we will try it again but we will do an all niter.there wud of been an accident if we tryed to climb it at nite..on our journey back up we had such a job with the rod bags and boxes.it was torture doin it with noting in ur hands never mind all the gear.next time we will just bring a bag on our back.we got up anyway and headed for home.we both enjoyed the day and we will return to this mark as we believe it has still yet to produce, conger, wrasses, dogs, flounders, turbot and ray.we are gonna give it a go at nite becuase we think thats when it will fish best.eskimo has some pics so will add them in the morning.cheers

Nice fishing Brian and Eskimo 8) Great report and pics. You's are brave climbing down to that mark, I wouldn't have made it down. I would have been terrified  Being an angler who is scared off heights which I am isn't good when you need to climb down somwhere rather steep/dodgy in order access a good fishing mark. I usually end up worth nothing when I get eventually get down and then immediately start to panic about how I am going to get back up again! I'm a wimp I know  ....you don't need to tell me
If you's are gonna go there and try it at night take care.
