Co. Sligo Spin & Bait Sessions, July 14th, 15th & 20th -2010

#1 Post by FisherKing »

People: 14th Myself, 15th & 20th Myself & the Brother

Duration: Three Hours in Total

Tide: Stranding & filling

Weather: Thunder, lighting, Wet & windy,

Bait: Spinners & Limpets

Results: Myself the 14th : 1 Mackerel, 15th : 1 Ballan Wrasse, 20th : 5 Pollock

Report:

Wednesday 14th

Was itching to get out & wet a line all week, as my favourite mark has been unfishable between the swells & wind  .
Conditions looked good, got the spinning rod set up & on the third cast caught a Mackerel but sadly had to call it day, as the weather changed very quickly with some loud rattles of thunder, just got back to the car in time before the downpour started along with lighting that was a bit too close for comfort  .

Thursady 15th

Had arranged to meet the brother for a few casts, but the North-westerly meant spinning was out, so a bit of Wrasse fishing was on the cards, stuck a few Limpets on the hook dropped down along the ledge.
But not a bite, this place used to be full of big wrasse in the past few years but due to so many of them been taken  it is almost been wiped out, managed to catch one Ballan around 2lb weight for forty minutes fishing between two, back a few years ago you would catch any amount of them  !!

Tuesday 20th

Got a text to go for a cast at a new mark to see how it fishes but I only had an two hours to spare & didn’t fancy having a blank so I niped down to my usual spot first & on the second cast hooked a fine Sea Trout about 5-6lb weight Which gave a great scrap, jumping two & three feet out of water, but managed to shake itself free  !! Caught five Pollock to 2.5 lb after so happy enough :) , packed up after an hour & went to meet the brother at the new mark.
After bit of a hike we got spinning but not a nibble :( , but did have the pleasure of watching a pod of dolphins in very close to the beach leaping into the air what a sight :D .

Well done Brian 8) Isn't it a bitch when the weather gets in the way of your fishing plans  It's been bad up here over the past couple of days too with thunder and lighting and heavy showers which has put a stop to my plans off getting out for a throw after work for an hour or too to unwind.
I'm sorry you lost your seatrout but it sounds like it give you a good scrap so at least you got to enjoy that before it got off on ya.
You'll get another one 8) That's you and K2 both who have lost a good fish over the past week before getting it landed  it would make you mad! It's even worse when you have seen it and then it gets off......
