New Mullet mark,14-7-10

#1 Post by Davy Murdoch »

People:me

Duration:2.5hrs

Tide:dropping

Weather:wet,breezy then nice

Bait:bread

Rigs:float

Results:mullet 8)

Report:Headed out to find a mark that would be sheltered in the south wind and came accross this place.I`d looked at it before but never got back to it as its a 50 minute drive...

It was almost high tide and there was fish all over the place so i ran back to the car to get the gear.
It only took 20 mins for them to switch onto the bread and it was another 10 before i hooked my first fish.
That fish unfortunately came off as i slid the net under it :(
Only a few casts later and i had another fish on,and after a decent scrap it was in the net :D not a huge fish at 3.3lb but it was my 100th mullet since August 2006 when i started fishing for mullet 8)

Over the next hour i lost 2 more fish, one looked very big :( , i also missed around 10 more bites. But then i spotted another good fish taking big bits of bread a short distance away so i headed downtide and cast out.
First cast and it whacked me and i had a good hook hold, but the fight was nuts and it had wrapped itself up in the line several times which is really heart stopping stuff
After maybe 10 mins i had it under control and in the net :D This one weighed in at 4.5lb 8)
There was still a few fish hanging around so i fished till they moved off but had no more bites or fish..

A great session on what i thought was gona be a washed out day 8)

Nice fish Davy and congrats on number 100. I'm trying next week for the first time this year. I was just wondering what type of float is best? I used a stick float last year with a small shot either side but only had one hook up. Is the clear bubble type better? Oh and any futher tips would be very welcome too!

Thanks.

Cheers Conor :D i use the bottom 2 inches of a cigar float(white)
tie a swivel to 3 foot of 6-8lb fluro slide a wee rubber float stop upto the swivel then the float, then small ball weight(1/16th or 1/8 oz) then another float stop or two cos they dont hold very well.I`ll sometimes use powergum instead.
tie on your hook and you`ll be ready to go.. :D

good luck mate.i look forward to reading a successful report

Nice one on your 100th fish, colin and I thought you would be stuck on 99 for a while yet. nice looking spot as well.
If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.

Nice one Davy.
Fair play to you for going to find a new mark to fish in those conditions instead of being lazy and just not bothering.
Looking forward to getting the fly rods out again after the success we had last week with them.

Thanks beachcomber :D
I think there might be someone else fishing this mark.It was far too easy to get them switched on to the bread :?
No signs of other anglers being at the mark, tho they could be standing at a different part of the bank.....
