rock angling in adrigoole at least i think its adrigoole

#1 Post by king65 »

Hello lads went fishing with my son on a rock mark just off beach.Interestingly enough there was a signpost there with a Plaque remembering the sullivan brothers ,anyway it was my sons first time fishing and i dearly wanted him to catch something, anything . I have not been fishing myself for at least three years so after picking up frozen bait in kenmare its all they had but i have always had good results with AMMO baits. We set off for Adrigoole . I seen the rock mark just off the beach with railings and all . Walked out to it got up on the rock set up two rods two hook traces . Baits were Mackeral ,Sandeel and Squid cast out and lost two traces in 15 mins, when i cast out again i added two big sea floats to keep the hooks off the bottom. after two minutes my son told me he had a bite i was skeptical until the rod bent over and the fight was on . What emerged from the sea was a fine strap conger just over two feet three inches long and about i am guessing about 4 and a half to five pounds very solid fish all muscle . My mistake however was laying it on the rock beside us it covered everything in slime and the rocks became very slippy eventually had to hold fish and trace over water and cut the snood as close to the hook as possible . It rained constantly and we had to wait for the tide to ebb before we could get back to the beach but it was worth it another generation hooked on the best sport in the world , pics are included but he was too shy to get in frame , I think he tought better of picking the eel up as it was thrashing about quite considerably

A fine first fish to kick off the lad's career :D

Where exactly is that Adrigoole by the way? There seems to be more than one of them.
