Club Outings to Carnlough South and Garron Point Waterfoot.
The members took advantage of the recent good weather and the returns were good at the various marks chosen on Saturday evening.
Ten of the members fished at Carnlough Beach South into the darkness and lesser spotted Dogfish were the main species taken. A new Carrick member took his first result with a bag of four Dogfish with Stuart Langridge coming second with three. Third were Bobby Laughlin and Jonny Gilbert both with three fish.
On Sunday the members were up early and chose marks in and around the Garron Rocks area. Conger Eel was the target species to secure the heaviest fish pool. Sam McDowell after his l6lb Conger at Carrick Harbour beat his personal best with a new Club Shore record by catching a superb 18.Slbs Conger. Sam struggled to land the powerful fish as it went into a roll, thrashing as it approached the surface.
However, Sam’s perseverance paid off when he landed the fish, which was caught on a steel 3/0 hook with live pouting for bait. When Sam got his breath back the fish was weighed, photographed and returned to fight another day.
Second on the day was Jonny Gilbert who thought the pool was in his hands when he latched onto a 7.5lb Eel. Jonny also lost a couple of larger Eels. Sam Morrison came third with a mixed bag of Dogfish, Wrasse and Rockling.
