Red Bay Co Antrim 3rd July

#1 Post by magelite »

Hi All

Fished from 1 to 5pm at the pier with fresh Lug dug that morning. High Tide was 15.50.

Lots of spieces around all be it small with Dab, Flounder, Codling, Wrasse and then as Germany scored the first against Argentina my rod had a nice big thump.

To my delight I caught a Plaice which must have been close to 3lb! I have a photo on my Phone I will try and upload.

Very Happy Man!!!

Although I got some grief from putting this nice fish back in unharmed from some other anglers who didnt seem to understand this!!! They all wanted to take it home to the wife!!!

Red Bay Pier, is that the same as Waterfoot Pier?

3lb plaice is some fish. I've had plenty of flatties at Waterfoot but none bigger than half pound. Nice fishing.

Were there any mackerel being caught.
Species List 2012 (Me) - Lesser Spotted Dogfish, Plaice, Codling, pollack, dab, SS Scorpion Fish, Ballan Wrasse, Codling.

Species List 2012 (Daniel) - Not got started yet :-(

would have been close to 3lb for sure.....yes waterfoot pier.... I have had good results there for Plaice with fresh lug and a bit of distance over the years....No mackerel being caught but everyone was bait fishing.

I believe you. Trust me.

There's enough good fish caught of the pier every year. Problem is that its not me getting them!

I was there on Monday. I actually moved after less than an hour as I getting bites from tiny flatties within seconds of the bait hitting the water. Maybe I should have stuck at it. I moved to Garron Point & had great fun with pollack & Wrasse on the float.

There is a particular spot you need to hit when fishing off the pier..... It always seems to be the same area I catch good flatties. You do need a bit of distance but not a great amount. You also will have better joy for bigger flatties with Fresh Lug.

Well done on the plaice mate. was fishing beside you with my kids. It was a cracker of a plaice. Just a pitty no more showed up. Plenty of species aswell. We had dab flounder plaice coley pollack wrasse corkwing wrasse and codling. Nothing of any great size but plenty about. Well done on putting the fish back I would have done the same. We left at the same time with the rain starting and the mackie bashers out in force I thought I would call it time and get the kids some grub..
