mullet account opened!! ards 1st july

#1 Post by Al and Jordan »

People: me, jordan, norman and dawsey

Duration: 3pm to 6pm

Tide: HW 4pm

Weather: baking sun and no wind

Bait: bread

Rigs: mullet float, single hook

Results: norman, 1 mullet at 4lb 8oz me, first ever mullet at 1lb 15oz!!

Report: with all these tales of monster mullet it was finally jordan's turn to have a crack at them. his school term finished on wednesday so an impromptue mullet session was organized by norman for us and dawsey. dawsey got held up, so when we arrived at the mark we got set up in quick time as there were quite a few mullet passing by us. norman got the ground baiting going with about 2 kilo of bread chucked into the swim. things were looking up as the mullet seemed to be interested enough to hang under the big clumps of bread and nibble away at it. jordan had a set up on his rod given to him by norman as was soon amongst the fish. the look on his wee face was priceless as he could'nt believe the size of them milling around his float. meanwhile me and norman were getting some interest too as the mullet finally seemed to be finally feeding instead of just whizzing by at speed :P . i finally got a good solid take that sank my float. but when i struck i felt the hook only momentarily get purchace befor shooting out of the water and almost hook me instead   . i was gutted, but got a new bit of bread on and got back out into them. jordan and norman were sharing the same frustration with missed bites until norman finally hooked into one  . i scrambled to get the camera and scales sorted while jordan was on net duty. it fought well for a good 3 minutes before norman guided it into the net jordan was holding. so with one quick scoop jordan had it on the bank. mission accomplished!. so a quick weigh that showed him at 4lb 8oz and a few pics and he was free to scoff bread for another day and swam off strongly :D . spirits were raised and norman had yet another nice mullet. so hopes were spurred when dawsey arrived and we all got back in on the action. and within 10 mins poor dawsey had a few cracking takes that just would'nt hook up for him. this sort of set the pace for the rest of the session until about a half hour before the end when i spotted a boil of mullet and cast right into the middle of them. my float dissappeared and i struck into a fish that was finally on the hook!!! panic set in as i loosened off the drag to let him run as i was cacking myself that the 10lb mono mainline might give (knowing my luck  ). he fought well even thow he was'nt that big and norman and dawsey went for the net to bag him. sadly the mullet had other ideas and went ballistic every time the net went near him and to be honest there were a few squeaky bum moments when te line got caught in the net  . but norman finally got him in the net and on the bank :P . he weighed in at just 1 ounce shy of 2lb and i was made up as i'm sure the pic will show    . now it's far from the biggest fish i've ever caught. but it was probably the hardest sought out fish next to jordan's first ever turbot. but i was shaking with excitement and finally glad to get the mullet monkey off my back :P . the rest of the lads had no luck for the rest of the session, but we'll be back to try to get one for jordan soon enough

Nice one fella's! :D
Well done K2 (Norman) :D that’s a lovely fish for you again, well deserved with all the sessions your putting in.
Congrats Al on finally getting your first mullet 8) I’m really, really happy for you mate. That’ll be you hooked on them now for sure!
Didn’t we tell you that mullet fishing was exciting! It’s the best thing since sliced bread I’m think
On the subject of bread, goodness knows how many loafs you lot have thrown in this week, those fish will be getting fatter and fatter every day feasting on all that bait.
I heard that Jordan did a great job netting K2’s fish, well done him, it’s not an easy task at times trying to net an angry mullet in the net that is doing it’s best to get away. I should know, I've had plenty of practice myself with netting K2's fish over the past few weeks
Great report and pictures again Al.
I’m hoping to get my account opened up at home this year myself soon, I’ll be out all weekend trying, fingers crossed.

Well done Al, have had a couple of goes myself, but frustratingly a lot of bites and no hook- ups. I'm gonna return with the fly rod and give that a rattle, to see if I've any better luck.
