People:Alexey(converted Pike Fisherman) and Myself
Duration:18.30-1.30
Tide:Low @18.30
Weather:Balmy
Bait:Rag+Mack
Rigs:3 Hook flapper/Pennel
Results:Me- Weaver x 4, Plaice x 1, Turbot x 1 Dog x 6 (two doubles!) Alexey-Weaver x 3, Dab x 3, Dogs x 3, Bass x 1 (50cm!!)
Report:Myself and Alex Headed to Wicklow on a Bass Hunt, first of the new season. First Two casts resulted in weavers, Al then caught a succession of small Dabs then all went quiet for a while, allowing us to enjoy the stunning evening for a while. ’Bout an hour later I pulled in my first Turbot! A little one but a turbot none the less! (I’m nearly sure anyway?)
A small plaice followed shortly afterwards, and then in came the Dogs! I managed two doubles, they were like dragging in a dead donkey! Al missed 3 good takes which I’m convinced were Bass, before his rod got walloped by a 50 cm silver beauty!
He gave a powerful fight! Al was fishing in close on his Pike Rod! Using a rig I gave him from last Saturdays ECR leg 4, (tiny size 4 hooks!) What a catch for your first time shore angling!!!
Eventually surrendered to the dogs at 1.30 and headed home. Any one know how heavy that bass would be???

Yea, read that they will give you a nasty sting, I was carful not to touch it anyway, that spiny black dorsal fin just flicks up when you touch it.Fishless wrote:Nice Bass lads...ive never caught a weever presume you have to careful unhooking them?

I stepped on one as a kid and by Jesus I never go near the water now without waders on! By the way are you the Kev from ECR's? If so please tell Pat I lost his number. New phone and old man results in balls up!
