fahan thornies 24.06.10

#1 Post by last cast lad »

People:me

Duration:8.30-10.30

Tide:falling

Weather:warm, calm

Bait:mackeral

Rigs:pulley, flapper

Results:3 Thornback Ray, Dogfish, flounder plaice hybrid :?: :?:

Report:Was meant to be fishing with mick thios evening but his plans changed so I headed down to fahan for a few hours to keep in touch with the thornies, beautiful evening and the water was like a millpond, apart from all the boats coming back to the marina. First rod was in the water fairly quick and it wasn't long before the ratchet gave a few gentle clicks, but i couldnt feel any weight and assumed it was just the weed that sometimes plagues this mark. When I pulled in I had a very small 11oz thornie, small but of the mark and blank saved. Next fish was a spotty flounder/plaice :?: The plaice have those identifiable hard knobbly bumps on top of their head and this fish while it looked like a flounder only had 2 hard bumps on top of its head :? , any help with this id apreciated
Shortly after this both rods started jumping at the same time and I landed a thornie on each, a bit better this time, 4lb12oz and 5lb1oz so after a quick unhooke and photo both went back and seemed to tell their mates not to touch the mackeral as it was jaggy. nothing else but a doggy after that.

Its a flounder by the looks of it mate. Here's a pic showing the nodules you are looking for on a plaice.
