Ramore head portrush

#1 Post by Ronald »

People:myself and davy

Duration:16.00hrs /02.00hrs ( 10 hr session )

Tide:hw 16.00hrs

Weather:humid and cloudy

Bait: Mackerel and poor quality ragworm

Rigs:conger gear and wrasse rigs

Results: 6 conger 7-14 lb ,to many doggies ,a couple of small bull huss, loads ballan wrasse 1/2lb -2lb ,rock cook wrasse ,corkwing wrasse ,goldshinny wrasse, pollack, poor cod (conger bait)and shannys

Report:decided to give ramore head a good session for the conger and wrasse ,still a bit early but at least the fish were there.
got of to a bad start when we opened the bag of worms to find most of them dead or well on there way , have to remind the shop to put plenty of fermiculite in with them in future ,managed to salvage about half a pound from a 1 1/2lb bag ,not good :x
started of fishing for the wrasse which normally feed at any state of the tide and were both soon into fish dangling baits straight under the rock face at our feet ,this kept up until darkness which suitted well for the conger fishing which seemed to pick up as the tide slackened towards low water .
even managed to land an 8lb conger on the wee bait casting rod and lost a bigger one when the hook pulled :( plenty of runs with a lot of dog fish grabbing the baits but hopefully another month or so should see some of the bigger congers 20lb+ making an apperance .
