SAC/ fish'n'meet species hunt

#1 Post by m.b3 »

would a species hunt interest people??? would not have to be a comp. or maybe even a friendly 'heaviest fish of desired species' pool??? we could pick locations that could hold potential specimens and then get our baits out to'em!

Mark,

Sounds like a great idea and right now it's tope season on the east coast.

Would anyone else be interested?

That sounds like a cracker. Maybe a tope hunt on one of the east coast beaches. So...... when and where are we going?

Sounds like a bit of craic. Would evening time give the best chances of fish or is daylight good also?

I have no idea Sean, I think an overnighter fishing the evening and the early morning might give the best chance. I would be up for this Saturday or the following Saturday. I don't mind fishing just the morning or evening either.

I'm going to hit Clones Strand for a nights fishing for Tope (yet to catch one) on Saturday night July 2nd from about 9.30pm if anyone is interested.

Not sure what time HT is at but the beach is quite deep so I believe the tide shouldn't make too much of a difference.

Clones is only 1 hour 15 minutes from Dublin.

Anyone interested?

Tried Clones on Saturday. Huge amounts of weed and a big surf meant I couldn't hold bottom with a 5 oz grip lead. No point in even trying for the tope in those conditions so tried scratching for whatever. Results: Poor cod, lesser weever and a couple of small flounder.

Tope next weekend maybe.

Don,

Thinking of hitting that area this weekend. Looking to go camping might even bring the missus along. Would be very interested in a Tope session if you are in the area.

JD / Don,

Do you guys know any good camping sites in the area that are close enough to the beach. Might be interested in renting a mobile if you know of such a place as well.

Kev/JD,

Just found out I may have to go to Clare this w/e. I'll find out more this evening and let you know for definite.

Kev, all the mobile homes are private and the park owners don't allow short term rentals or even camping here but I have seen people camp overnight on the beach itself.

It's a 10 minute drive from either Gorey or Arklow though.

I'll PM both of you my number and you can give me shout if you want any more info.

Gents,

I'm in Clare with the family this w/e so I can't make Clones. MAC, there is a hotel called Clogga Bay Hotel which is 5 minute drive from Clones and Clogga beach itself is supposed to be fishing well at the moment and even throwing up a few shore mackeral.

Kilmicahel point is also just 5 minutes from here so you have a lot of options.

I'm going to try for a Bass this weekend Don. I'm booking the weekend after the comp to try for a Tope. So we are looking at Saturday the 23rd. I'm bringing my bro in law and a friend. Anyone else interested? m.b3 I can pick you up mate if you are thinking about it. At the moment I'm thinking Friday evening get down pitch a tent somewhere close to a good tope spot and give it a good bash on the Saturday.

Any takers?
