Fintra Donegal 10/06/10
People: Me and Belo the Barbarian
Duration: 2.5 hrs
Tide: Dropping
Weather: Strong North easterly, but sheltered where we were
Bait:Sandeel & Mac
Rigs: Loop rigs, flyers, flappers
Results:9 Flounder, 1 Dab, 3 Homelyns.
Report:
Had read a report that Fintra was throwing up a load of dogs at the moment, so myself and Belo made the trip with high hopes of a doggie bashing session.
Was trying out some frozen sandeel that I had netted myself and I was happy enough with the quality of em. Anyway first cast out far resulted in a decent dab of 32cm. Nothing for the next cast or two. Then got a phonecall from "her indoors" which resulted in me having to be away from the rod for half an hour. Returned to find a slack line and wound in a double shot of spotted ray (male and a female). Got bitten twice by the male while posing for a photo, havent been bitten by a ray in about ten years!
We were both catching away at flounders in close and I had one decent one out far too. By about 10pm the wind died off and the midges came out in force so we decided to get out of there as quickly as possible. Never seen anywhere as bad for midges, any exposed skin was literally covered in em. Typically Belo reeled in a double of a flounder on the flyer and a spotted ray on the loop rig so we had to stay getting eaten while unhooking and returning them.
No dogs to be had but a nice evenings fishing all the same.
Will try uploading photos from my phone later.

got my first, second and only homelyn rays from a well known Donegal rock mark but they were only 2lb.
It was a great day till the mackie bashers turned up
i was getting three species of ray coming in thick n fast but then they turned up and all i was getting was tangled with their feathers

Nice session lads well done to all. Hate that Donegal midge, I take serious reactions to it.

The female was about 4lb or so, decent fish. No worries with the macky bashers on the beach, just swimmers to avoid.
