hi all
have just been givin 70lb braided line was wonderin was it to haeavy for boat fishing nothing hard core just cod pollock ect
usualy just use 40lb mono
what is the difference

It probably is a bit on the heavy side, but check the line diameter on the spool, chances are its still thinner than your old 40lb mono, and hence will drag less in the tide, allowing you to use less weight.
Its your choice really, stick with somthing you've been given it for free, or spend €20/€30, on somthing in around the 30ld mark. Personally id give it a go!
