Bemoan all the way for myself as well.... Hate the place, although it is hand being able to set up out of the boot, but I'd rather a long walk and a few fish

Jaysus Kev, you arent a bitter man or anything.... This hostility all stems from that awful day of the North V South site meet/comp many years ago. Pull yourself together man! :D

Funny enough Pete, that was at least a good night out....

Just way too many bad results from it over the years... On it's day it can throw up a few, but when it's off, it's off. Luckly I'm off match fishing for a little while, so I won't need to be there for a while yet. I'll leave it to those that know how to fish the place..

tell you i have fished a lot worse places than benone by a long shot,on its day it can throw up some lovely fish and if you check the records there have been some belters of it.ok it can be a hard task master at times but thats why they call it fishing and not catching!!! i dont think there is a beach in ireland that gets fished as much as benone, nearly every weekend from september to janurary.as a match venue its up there with the best!!!!john

Couldn't have put it any better!! Benone is one of my favourite venues for match fishing! Last year was a great year for fish and they were there in big numbers! Alot of them not very big which suited us as undersized fish counted for 5 points. Looking forward to getting back down in September! 8)

Really?????

I fish a lot of matches around the country and I think it is up there with the WORST in the country.

In fact, I cant think of a worse one.......... totally unreliable!!!
UP THE DEISE!!!!!!!

If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

would like to hear the ones you say are reliable nearly all year round and are fished as often as benone, make good reading???i also think if you check the ifsa records of fish caught in matches it will prove what i am saying about benone.

I love the place, even before the Jimmy Smith win last year, in spite of the fact it can break your heart on occasion. It is a tricky venue to fish and theres many a day there appears to be no justice on it. Its the venue I caught my first ever comp counting fish on some years ago. A doubler of decent Turbot after going for a kip in the dunes which Mb.3 has never forgiven me for  . (I'm a bit more focussed these days mid comp.... :D )

Wudnt say its one of the worst it can be awful at times but it does be fished really hard from september to febuary and i realy dont see why it shud be fished solid like that every wknd, there is a pile of other beaches that are lot better on there day and are underfished in the north...

I fished it twice before in June 09. One of the tackle shops in Portrush had said that it was producing some bass. First time all I got was a small flattie, second time was a blank ( there was some lad whooring up and down close to shore on a jet ski which didn't really help things). Each trip was only for a couple of hrs. I fished down to the left of the beach close to the army sign. Would love to give it a proper try though. Anybody got any tips on how best to fish this mark?

if you believe all you are told benone has thrown a fish or two up over the years to break the record, but never claimed.
as a match venue, i find it pretty good, as quite a lot of days tides and conditions dont best suit it and there is a lack of fish around, it gets guys fishing harder for their fish, which isnt a bad thing at times..
Not the BigPhil from Irish Angler mag, I'm the original, i swear!!!!
