#1 Post by steve wilton »

People: my self and kev

Duration:saturday/sunday

Tide:all

Weather:fantastic

Bait:feathers/mackeral

Rigs:all

Results:mackeral/sand eel,pollock/tope/spurdog

Report:

went out for a few hours with chunk and kev on friday in the bay and to give the boat a run, thought the good weather could bring the mackeral in so gave the feathers a go,tried many marks without susccess, managed a few small pollock untill last thing when we hit a shoal of mackeral at last! went out again saturday afternoon no mackeral just pollock but had kept some from friday so sat over sand for the ray, tope etc, after an hour kev got a good spurdog about 13 lbs, then my rod went set the hook and tried to reel something good on that was pulling me round then snap, set up again with tope trace then a repeat performance so set up again this time after a good fight i managed to bring it to the serface it was a seal!!! he gave a good roll and flip of the tail and snaped me thank god. slept on the boat that night and went back out for a few hours ,tried for the mackeral only managed to catch one and also a 10" sand eel so we used them as bait this time a bit further away than our last mark hoping the seal wouldnt be about. after 30mins my rod went at first i thought seal time but it turned out to be a nice male tope 22lbs ish, then the seal came around the boat and promptly came up with a dog fish in his mouth so called it a day , wonder when the mackeral will be in in numbers, but a great weekend
