Bass Hunter, Cahore, 21st May

#1 Post by Stan »

People:Stan, Paul & Willie

Duration: 10.30-17.00

Tide: ??

Weather:Brilliant

Bait:Macs, squid & crab

Rigs: Tope traces....2 hooks flowing

Results: tope, smooth hounds, ray, dogs & whiting

Report: Left Dublin at 8.15am and were on piers at around 9.45.
From the start the went very well. The weather was superb. We motored S & anchored between the buoys. I got a smallish tope around 20lb  and then Paul caught a very nice thornback. :D

After a while the tide became too strong and the anchor would not hold. So we motored up to the Rooney Rock. Here we caught 3 more ray and a few more smoothies ( all smallish) :D :D :D . The bait began to disappear as quickly as we put it in the water. So Willie put down so bait on small feathers and immediately had pin whiting.

At 17.00 we decided to lift the anchor and almost had it hauled when the engine cut out    . As soon as I turned the key I just got a warning whistle.

On the radio for help and the Courtown lifeboat came out to bring us back in.

It was great to have the GPS to give our exact location. What a superb service the RNLI give. Thanks very much to them for the rescue.

Am a bit puzzled that the engine broke down as I have just gotten it serviced by DDM marine. :?: :!: :!: Will contact them tomorrow to see what the problem is. Hopefully, it is something minor.

Thats a great day out Stan (fish wise),

We had toyed with the idea of heading up last Sunday, but the lack of bait put us off.

8) looks like you've had an enjoyable trip Stan, can't beat a day on the boat in these conditions, pity about the mishap with the engine, maybe an auxiliary is next on your wishlist?

Nice fishing Stan, well done!
Tope and Stingray, brilliant - that's two species on my wishlist for the year - lucky you!  Although I'd rather catch one from the shore if I could I would still love to catch one so on a boat would suit me fine. As long as I got one I'd be happy :D

Thanks for all the messages lads.

Brought out boat to DDM marine today. The fuel had water in it. They had to flush out the whole system and had it done very quickly and for a very reasonable price. These guys know their stuff.

Nice to meet twinkle there.

Same thing happened us last year after I filled the tank at a one-pump station outside one of the local pubs  And I'd forgotten to renew the element in the water separator.... But the Honda managed to limp the last couple of miles home. I've bought an auxilliary since.
