Co,Sligo Pollock,Coalies,Wrasse,Mackerel 13,18,20th May 2010

#1 Post by FisherKing »

People: Myself

Duration: 13th : 30 Minutes, 18th: 3 Hours, 20th: 2 Hours

Tide: Stranding & Filling

Weather: Overcast wet, Sunny & Bright

Bait: Limpets & Spinner

Results: 13th: 2 Pollock, 1 Mackerel. 18th: 9 Pollock, 3 Coalies, 1 Mackerel. 20th: 3 Mackerel, 2Pollock, 1 Ballan Wrasse

Report:

Thursday 13th

Short Thirty minute session, landed a couple of Pollock around the two pound mark & a good size mackerel before the wind changed & made casting impossible  , so called it a day.

Tuesday 18

With the thought of big Pollock & my first Wrasse of the year on my mind all week, picked the location, fifteen minutes later was set up & spinning, taking Coalies & Pollock on the first few casts :) then it slackened of  .
So perfect time to try a spot of Wrasse fishing, on with some Limpets, dropped down along the rock edge & got one good bite, struck, pulled in a 3lb Pollock  .
Gave it another twenty min or so but still no Wrasse very late to return to this mark  !!
After a while I moved further down the rocks & first cast hooked & landed a decent Pollock of five & a half pound :D .
Tried another twenty minutes with just a few fish around one – two pound & a lone Mackerel, so hopped back to the first spot, casted out as far as I could & bang a big Pollock took the lure on the surface, what a scrap-it fought like a fish twice its size  , got him landed with a struggle & weighed a good 6lb 8) .

Thursday 20

Arrived back to same mark that I fished on the Tuesday, the sea was like mill pond, hopes were getting low for catching any big Pollock.
First few casts got three mackerel followed by two very small Pollock & that was it, went very quiet.
With nothing to lose I prized a few small Limpets from the rocks, baited up dropped down along the edge, got a good pluck, struck, landed my first Wrasse of the year :D 8) , happy days, what a difference a day makes, how I’ve missed these fish, mighty fighters. Tried for a while longer but no joy just great to see them back, hopefully the rest of them will follow in the next few days  !!

i was down on your mark last sat for about an hour, caught 1 pollack @ a couple of pound and a small coalie.
was at mullaghmore on sunday all day and decided to give it a cast with a mate. fished about an hour n a half i caught nothing but my mate what was right beside me and using the same lure caught 6 small pollack, all returned.
thats a few now i have seen pulling in the pollack down that way.

Cheers niall, mullaghmore can be tough fishing at times but the big pollock & mackerel shoud be starting to show around the rocks there now. Iv often fished beside someone with the same lure & they would catch plenty when i couldn't get a bite, but thats fishing

The Deadly Cheapo strikes again! :D Brilliant. Always an extra boost to outfish the expensive designer lures.

One of the best lures Iv ever used will catch almost any fish that swims  & for €2.50 a great bargin, to think of all the money spent on over priced lures & catch feck all, when a cheap one is ten times better, happy days 8) !!
