Inishowen co donegal 19th May 2010

#1 Post by bigbadtom »

People: Me Rodbender and Fishermannum.

Duration: 7 am till 6 pm

Tide: 10.35.a.m.

Weather: overcast at first then clearing to sunny

Bait: Lug, Mackeral, Squid, Prawn and sandeels.

Rigs: Pulley and 3 hook flapper.

Results: One 29 cm flounder and one foul hooked flounder about 20 cm.

Report:

Went to a Leenan and started fishing about 7 am. Got nothing. Packed up around 10 am and went to the pier at Buncranna where I met up with Rodbender who had caught a ray earlier. Fished till about 3 pm. Got one flounder of 29 cm. on Lug tipped with a sliver of mackeral on the flapper rig. Rodbender cooked up a breakfast fit for a king. Truly a prince among men. Then went and met up with my old mate Fishermannum on the beach at Fahan. We both fished till around 6 pm but no joy apart from a small foul hooked flounder. It was a pleasure to fish with these two gentlemen and I look forward to fishing many more times with them both. I am sure they will put up better reports in time.
Ya should a been here last week.

it wasn't a great session alright Tom, when i started fishing fahan the wind was up and the swilly was full of white horses, seamed pointless trying for the thornies in them condition's, as fahan fish's better when the water is more sebrime. but i set up anyway and persevered, i threw everything i had at them, sandeel, mack, squid, prawn, herring and cocktails of every sort, had a pennell pulley out at distance and one at medium range, and not even one nod on any of the rods. on the last hour or so the condition's improved and i thought we would hit into them, but no joy. it was just one of them days. but was nice to get out for a few hours and meet up with Tom for a few throws. my stomach was rumbling with hunger, and Tom made me feel worse by telling me in great detail about the fry up he got from Ivan "GITT!!!!!"
Ivan sorry i never got down to the pier to have a few throws with you, just had enough time to catch the right tide at fahan, maybe next time mate...
as ole rab c said " see me' see the sea' i love the sea me"
right i'am off for a swally!!!!!!! so were's the F***'n purse!!!!!!!

nice one guys. the fishing might not have been great but the craic must have been mighty  . ivan's wagon is some piece of kit alright, helped me to decide that when i get rid of my motor a camper is next on the list :D . added to that, he is a true gent and i picked quite a few tips from him last year. the man knows his stuff.

Jayus lads Im blushing with all the nice comments you said about me    and I hate doin this to you but the fishing did come good in the end. After Tom left a wee nap was taken and run to Lenan which was shoulder to shoulder and the odd fish being caught. Most were elderly and I was in no hurry so didnt intrude. Made dinner and got the rods in the water just before 2300. From 2325 all hell broke loose and I dont mean from the basking sharks cruising the bay. 3 rods, different baits and traces and every 2-3 minutes a fish was missed or on the pier. Mainly doggies but also had 1 plaice, 1 dab,and 1 flounder to 23cm. Retired 0130 a very happy and tired man. :D :D :D Resumed next morning 0750 and 0930 hit into a doggie, a thornie at 1010 and 2 coalie 1200 hrs. :D :D :D At this stage it was time to go as my phone took in some water and her indoors just might worry when she couldnt get hold of me.
