bray harbour nice surprise 17/5/10

#1 Post by sea serpant »

weather: really windy but got better later

tide: goin out coming in before we left

bait: ragworm and sandeel

time: 6.30pm-10.00pm

result: 1 fairly fat codling

Went out monday evening on a truly spur of the moment quick session.I was sitting in bored silly when i mentioned to my brother that i wouldn mind wetting a line since i havent been out in a few weeks and that was it he said he had some spare change from the weekend so we flew down got fourty ragworm and a pack of sandeels.Headed to bray pier and but the wind was really strong an the tide was quickly heading out so fishing was very slow. After an hour or so the weather cleared up and the wind died down but still not so much as a bite. With nothing much happening i decided to set up a big ragworm bait on size 3/0's and blast it as far as i could and within a couple of min i had a few rattles on that rod, i left it alone and concentated on baiting up my other rod.As i picked up the rod that was out to reel it in i felt a bit of weight and to my delight a nice fat codling broke the surface :) 8), on closer inspection i was actually really happy with the fish as it was my biggest codling all year about 2lb or so  ... after that the bites came fast and hard as the tide came in but i quickly ran out of bait an decided to head  all in all a lovely way of spendin monday evening 8)

You did well,I was there the night before,3 of us on one side of the pier and 5 guys on the other side,,,,,,not a bite all night. I was there from 6-11pm, low water about 7pm,rag and mack, and I eventually caught a small dab to save my blank about 9-30pm,,,,the other lads all gave up and headed off just before it got dark, after being there for so long   , i cant understand why they go just before the supposedly best time but my wife tells me that maybe they have a life  . I moved spots and got a codling (not 2lbs  ) where he was supposed to be,thanks Roger, and went home reasonably happy,it was cold enough in the breeze and there were strange lights in the sky and no i wasnt taking anything i shouldnt have taken   ps you have reminded me that i should have some sandeels in my freezer,,thanks
