donegal beach big flatties sat 8th may

#1 Post by Al and Jordan »

People: me, jordan, fishermannum1 and mark

Duration: 3pm - midnight

Tide: LW 9pm

Weather: 10mph NW. sunny and dry :P

Bait: rag, lug, cooked peeled prawn, mack and sand eel

Rigs: pulleys, 3hook flappers and 2 up 1 down attractor rigs

Results: turbot, flounder, thornback ray, plaice and doggies

Report: after all our west coast travells we decided to continue the west coast journey but head furthur north into donegal this time. our mate mark has had us out trying to get jordan his first pike recently and i thought it would be a nice gesture to invite him out along with us for a sea fishing session. so a few phone calls later and fishermannum1 chose a venue where a few decent fish might be had and we all hit the road :D as i was loading the car i got a text from jonny off the site (immunefc) asking me did i want any free ragworm,,, silly question   . free bait yee ha!. we met up and he gave me a half pound of big king rag and we hit the road :P (thanks man 8) ). on the way up to lift mark my dash board lit up like a christmas tree with the oil warning light and engine management light coming on    . i pulled over and checked the oil and water levels and everything seemed grand :? :? :? . i reckoned it must have just been the sensors away and decided to plod on just keeping an eye on the temp gauge as i was'nt about to abandon a fishing trip due to a few faulty sensors :x :x . soon enough we met fishermannum1 and were at the mark and ready to fish  . this beach has never been kind to us in the past, with only 2 blanks to show for our past sessions at it. but fishermannum1 was convinced that it would fish and by god he was right 8) . he was first off the mark with a nice turbot of 30cms and jordan soon followed suit with a new PB turbot of 35cm weighing in at 1lb 7oz  . this was brilliant and we were only here 20mins :P . i was next in on the action with a new PB flounder of 41cm and 1lb 10oz :P . this set the pace for the rest of the session with every one getting a decent stamp of fish. then i had one of those moments when i got a fish on a bait that your not supposed to. mark noticed a twitch on my distant rod and i reeled in a wee thornie who had snaffled a king rag on the middle hook of my flapper rig and ignored the sand eel on the top hook and the mackeral on the bottom hook  :| . silly fish   . just before it started to get dark fishermannum1 had to scoot on and i got the pan out for a feed of sausage sarnies :D . great to get out with don again and his choice of venue came up trumps  . so with 16 thick sausages sizzleing away in the pan we got set to fish into darkness. after scoffing down half a pigs worth of sausages we got back to the fishing. funny thing was, that as it got dark the fishing died off :? :? quite the opposite to what we've been used to of late. but a local guy and his son came over for a chat and it turned out that they were fishing mad too. the fella was really decent and gave us about a dozen new marks to try out in the area  top man. while we were all chatting a pod of dolphins or pourpoises came within 300 yards of the shore splashing about in front of us for 30mins or so which was great to watch. then the relative quiet was broken with the sounds of whoops and hollars coming from jordan's direction as he ran up the beach towards us with a fish in his hand proclaiming that he might have got his first ever plaice. the poor wee mite has been praying that every spotty orange flounder he's got in the last 2 years was that elusive place that he's been after   . and finally he came up trumps as under closer inspection i confirmed what he's been waiting to hear for so long. it was a plaice!! . we settled down and the dogs came on the feed with mark getting 2 and me getting 1 before we decided to call it a day. what an end to a great session. we all caught, and what we caught was pretty decent too. 3 personal bests and a new species for the wee man. if only all our sessions could be like this one  .
so the final scores on the doors ended up,
MARK - 2 doggies, 2 flounder and a turbot.
JORDAN - 5 flounder, 2 turbot and a plaice.
ME - 5 turbot, 3 flounder, 1 thornie and a doggie
FISHERMANNUM1 - turbot and flounder

was great to meet up with you again al' and have a session, and what a session it was too 8) 8) 8) at first i was a bit worried for the tide was on the drop, as this mark usually fishes better on the rise, but someone up there was helping us out :D :D :D at one time we were all running in different directions to our rod for they were all getting rattles 8) 8) al' i recon you must have loss about half a stone with all that running up and down the beach    but it was a great session guys, and was good to get out with you's again, and mark was nice to meet you mate and hope to get you up again for another session.
heres a few pic's
