Report:headed off this morning on the usual drop the sprog to playschool run with the idea of doing a spot of fishing close by whilst waiting for her to finish, its handy and saves petrol , was on the mark by 9.15 and wasnt to confident to say the least as my morning sessions never yield to much only 1 seatrout to show for maybe 2-3 quick sessions a week for the last few months. few gannets diving out in the bay and a nice north westerly breeze chopping up the water and a mild feel to the wind i was happy just to be there and out doing what i likes best "standing on a beach". i got 1 small tug about 10am but think it was either a small crab or flattie playing with the embarrasingly big bait for fairly shallow water but it aint just any auld water, tis special water and when you stick such an attractive bait in shallow water just on the fringes of a certain species patrol area now and again you will connect and that i did about 10.45. firstly the line dropped suddenly so i knew either fish or weed then the line started to go left then right of me whilst still slack i knew something had it in its gob, by this time the rod was in my hands and the adrenalin rush was hitting home as the tension increased and the rod arched over .....bingo i struck in and straight away the rod was nearly reefed outa my hands fine fish on , the fish made about 5 or 6 searing runs with huge pressure on the light rod im using but finally got it to shore and then it hit me (not the fish) the size of it was bigger than any bass i had seen in the flesh. quickly out with measure and boga gripped to fish onto a flat rock, measured in at 75cm and weighted 11.2lb on my boga , eased the fish back into the surf and after a minute it shot off like bejayzus, been knocking on the door of that fish for awhile now and to finally get 1 over the 10lb mark is a great feeling and makes up for all the blanks and lost biggies

Oh my God seanie, what a fish. Congratulations mate! I don't mind admitting to you that although I'm really happy for ya I'm also feeling a wee tiny bit sick with jealousy as well It's my dream of catching a bass that size but it hasn't happened yet, hopefully someday. The big bait worked well for you again which is fantastic and again crab proves itself as the number one bait to use when it comes to catching bass down in Waterford, for you anyway. It must have give you some scare when you seen it for the first time and realised how big it was, my heart would have been beating out of my chest on the light rod you where using too the fight it gave you must have been fantastic, really good craic I bet that was the same fish that you have had on a couple of times but what has then got off on you - finally you got it. You must be feeling rather pleased with yourself and so you should be. It's a fish of a lifetime, you've put in alot of hours to catch it, you deserve it. (I'm still jealous though ).

Fair play an excellent fish and fair play on the C & R. Excellent report, lets hope that beasts like that don't end up in nets in the near future .............
