Was making some weights yesterday evening preparing for the 'summer'.
I noticed that when I heated the side of my ladle, there was a small lead chip on the stone worktop I made for the job. As I was heating the ladle with the torch (no time for the slower hob connection) the small lead chip began to melt......then formed into a sphere.
Anyway, I finished making my ton load of weights and had a look at this little lead ball. Took a Stanley and cut it down the middle.....a lead line shot!
I never use them, but was interesting to see the lead heat up and form a sphere. tried it another couple of times and worked fine, only thing is, if you try it with too much lead, it pools.
:!: This is absolutely dangerous especially if not done in the right conditions, I have been making my own weights for a few years now and have gained experience on how to 'handle' lead in a safe way, although accidents can always happen regardless of experience. I'm not suggesting that anyone attempt or try this, most of all young anglers, without an experienced adult present. :!:
