it could be a multitude of things best advice is meet up with someone on here at a beach close to both of you and watch what they do,If you live near galway pm me and ill gladly show you as much as i can. It might be as simple as wrong beach but probably your overcasting. Most fish caught on beaches are got in the suds in front of you 20-30 yards out

we were the same a year ago, always fished rock marks or piers only hitting beaches the odd time and never getting much, but we were using rock/pier tactics for the beach, wrong rigs wrong size hooks and wrong baits, then we got friendly with some lads of this site, namely nige,stevecrow76 and saltydog and they taught us loads directly and indirectly   if i could give you one bit of advice, make friends with some of the lads from this site, join a club, and i promise you will learn loads in a very short length of time.one other tip,get your hook size down, size 1-4 ive had a salmon 5lb 4oz on a size 2 hook, fresh worm baits for flatties, and small fish baits for turbot, and five to twenty yards into the surf is far enough if you are searching for flatties, seatrout and bass.mind you thats the west coast and ive not got a bass yet!!
species 2012.........(12)seatrout,bass,turbot,flounder,brill,lsd,coalie,shore rockling,pollock,pout,poor cod,gray gurnard

.... and when are you fishing? Beaches usually fish better from dusk into darkness, or at dawn.
