Back and need ideas!!

#1 Post by steveoel »

Hey all,

After a forced break from fishing from early last summer till just last sunday i am back fishing again!
And how i have missed it!!!!!

If anyone can remember last summer im was trying my best to catch my first thornback ray!!!
I managed to hook a play two only to lose both at the critical moment!!!!

So here we go again!!!! With any luck by the end of this summer i willl have caught one!!!!!!
So any ideas would be very welcome such as marks rigs or tips!! :) :)

Great to be back!
Tight lines!!!

hello , i used to head to kerry annually for ray and can tell you most of the county's coastline is stuffed with them... favoured marks of mine were fenit island, dingle and the 5/6mile rocky coastline after inch strand but really you can have a go anywhere from dingle right around tralee bay to fenit pier... Look out for rocky outcrops broken with parts of sand and usually if your landing dogfish the ray aren far behind, again night time is by far the best time to fish and by far the most effective bait is fresh mackrel with frozen sandeel a close 2nd but i like to use a cocktail of sandeel and squid wrapped up together like a sausage with bait elastic.A rod that can put baits a good distance and has a bit of backbone is a help i tend to use my kompressor s lately for my ray fishing and dont use anything else but a pulley rig with 40lb snoods and 2or3/0 hooks  hope this helps
