Vagabond out of Culdaff 24/4/10

Results:Loads of Pollack, Cod, Pouting, Mackerel, Coalies and maybe others I missed!

Report:Headed out about 10 ish and fished the Cumberland wreck first. One of the lads didn't fish much as he was just out for the ride and I spent the day heaving over the side so can only claim a handful of Pollack and Coalies. Talk about mad , I had been looking forward to this for weeks! Anyway, the four rods that were working must have hauled in the guts of 200-250 fish during the day, the best going to Gavin, a pollack of just over 10lbs. Many more around the 5-7 lb mark and good sized coalies and a cod. The boys arms were hanging off them as they were fishing the bottom at about 150ft! White cod feathers proved to be deadly for everything. The few I was well enough to catch fell to jelly worms (4/0) on 9ft 20lb traces and also sandeels. Terry started the day off in the first 20 seconds with his white cod feathers hauling in a full trace of 4, nice fish they were too by the end of the first 2 hours he had supplied all the boys with white feathers and the catch rate shot through the roof! Terry even pulled in a few Mackerel which was nice to see in April As I suffered in the Wheelhouse I was aware we were moving around a few marks but by this stage I was beyond caring
The boys were well chuffed with the days fishing and Charlie was a good skipper, he knew his drifts

agh man thats the pits excuse the pun .there is nothing worse especialy with all the fish been caught. do you suffer like that on the boat all the time? have you tried taking tablets ? i find sealegs very good never let me down

nice fishing pity about the getting sick you should try putting cotton wool in 1 ear works for my friend who gets sick in the car never mind the boat but it seems to work

agh man thats the pits excuse the pun .there is nothing worse especialy with all the fish been caught. do you suffer like that on the boat all the time? have you tried taking tablets ? i find sealegs very good never let me down

Second time in my life..............first time was 2 years ago crossing the North Channel in a 36ft Yacht. Never before that and I have been in boats all my life. Maybe it's an age thing! Apparently your balance/inner ear deteriorates as you get older so that could be something to do with it. Will be carrying Sea Legs from now on as it's too feckin dear for a days barfing!

nice fishing indeed, such a disappointment for sick lads i feel sorry for them i was sick once too, skiper pour couple shots of JAMESONs well worked to me anyway very well done lads good fishing, upload some pictures next time would be nice to see your trophe

There was also a few ling, red & grey gurnard, whiting, mackerel and one cuckoo wrasse (caught by myself ). When the weather permits, Culdaff is an excellent venue, and it will only get better as the water temp rises in the weeks & months ahead and more species move in closer to shore.

Well done on the Cuckoo. I love catching Wrasse (normally Ballan) myself, very pretty fish the Cuckoo

One of those swimmers ear-plugs are better because it totally seals and confuses your inner-ear.
Can't vouch for it myself but I've seen it work for other people.


You might look like a dickhead , but it's a small sacrifice to make for feeling well

nice fishing fenton, just a pity the sickness kicked in on you . thankfully i've never got it but poor old dawsey has yet to find his sea legs too. nothing worse than doing all the groundbaiting while the rest of the lads are hauling the fish in . hopefully it was an isolated incident.
