Wicklow beach, 25-04-10

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me and Fishface

Duration:7-11pm

Tide:rising

Weather:mild,mostly nice, some heavy showers

Bait:rag,mack,squid,crab

Rigs:flappers, pulley rigs

Results:me,,,,,,,,,,,4 fish,,,,,,,,,,,2x bass,1 x codling and 1 x whiting

Fishface,,,,,,,,,,I couldnt remember as I had succeeded in successfully blocking it out of my mind but he sent me this reminder,"just a little reminder 3 Bass, 4 flounder, 4 dabs, 1 coalie, 1 codling,"

Report:We arrived at the beach at 7pm,no one else there surprisingly  . We decided to set up the shelters as there were some very black clouds above us and this turned out to be a good move. We were both fishing 2 rods each with 2 and 3 hook flappers. Neil also tried the pulley rig at distance .It was a very mild night as later on we agreed that we could pack the floatie suits away till next winter,,,,,,,,,,I was steaming like a carthorse when I arrived back at the car later it was so mild.
Neil was first off the mark with a couple of daylight fish, codling and flounder ,and he was soon pulling way ahead of me(again  ). He had been showing off his rods and reels again to a passerby  and the guy had told me as he was looking at my newly aquired mid range stuff that many a good fish was caught on cheap gear,,,,,,,,,that made me feel really good    .I was still confident at that early stage that I would catch up,,,,,,,but sadly for me it was not to be as he pulled in a steady stream of dabs, flounder ,codling and even a coalie  . Then to add insult to injury, he calls me over to show me a small bass   .I plugged away and finally broke my duck with a nice wee codling,,halleliujah  .This was followed by a small bass of my own and this bass made my trip worthwhile.Quick pic and back he went to be followed by a whiting and then later on another slightly bigger (small  )bass. I'm not calling them schoolies,as far as i'm concerned a bass is a bass is a bass  .
Fishface caught another bass and i started to pack my gear away while it was 2 bass each but of course you know where this is going and youre right ,,,,,,,,,,,he landed another just as we finished up   .I'm glad for him ,really i am,,,,,,,,,,,,if I keep saying it to myself i might believe it. Anyways a good Sunday evenings fishing borne out by the fact that we had no bait leftover,,,besides at least i caught the biggest bass

ps,,,,,,,,forgot to mention that plain rag worked better than rag tipped off with mack or squid
