new warrior; two questions

#1 Post by jw »

due to circumstances i have not launched yet but had time today to give the engine
a run in a barrel of water and set up a few things

the first thing i noticed is no cooling telltale  on the new suzuki 100hp,
the manual says it should be there at startup. it was working the last time i ran it
anybody know what this is about?

i put an MMSI into the cobra vhf, spent about 1/2 hour fiddling with menus etc,
but cant get it to see the coordinates from the lowrance hds5m plotter
anybody done this?

on the plus side i found an excellent free program called gpsbabel which can translate
gps files so was able to read a load of waypoints from garmin bluechart
and load them onto the lowrance gps

you might have the intakes covered, but the impellor might be that little bit higher up the shaft a bit of adjustment with the jockey wheel might work wonders.
im not guessing this i have seen it happen plenty of times

i got this working by using a flushing attachment no problem. With the barrel its
full of water well above the attachments, above the anti cavitation plate and
it still wont spray water. Strange thing is it used to do. i know on a stern
drive the impeller is on the engine miles above the intakes and it can
suck the water up no problem, anyway its working now

Not being right in front of things its nearly impossible to diagnose the problem, but it'd worry me that it only works with the hose, cos surly thats the hose pressure thats pushing it thru, which would mean there's no blockage, but in the container with the engine running nothing happens, so is the cooling pump turning at all?

Also the fact that it ran OK in the container at first and now isnt would concern me. If it was mine, I'd have a look into that pump before I ran it again.

I had the same problem with mine, I thought the impellor might be dry so I put the hose to the pee hole and pushed water backwards around the system, and since then its been perfect.

thanks for the replies. according to the manual the recommended way to run
the engine out of water is with the flushing attachment, the telltale only
appears after the engine is started which suggests the pump is working.
i suspect its ok but will keep an eye on it
