Co Antrim Rock Mark - Sat 17 April 10

#1 Post by StevieC »

People - Me

Duration: 17.30 - 1900

Tide: Rising

Weather: Overcast / dry

Bait: rag and frozen mack

Rigs: 3 hook flappers

Results:flounder (29cm)

Report: Was aiming to give Ramore Head a throw to see what was doing but the sea conditions were not ideal with waves breaking over the rocks.
So I headed back along the coast to another wee mark that looked promising. Although the tide was rising I was positioned above the breaking waves.
However, having received a bit of a splashing and with nothing to show I started to pack up. Having put most of my gear away I started to reel in as fast as I possibly could keeping one eye on my line and another on a large wave that was heading my way. Then, just as my rig broke the surface I realised I had a fish on. Conscious that I wasn't going to beat the wave I held on fast, secured my footing and let it wash around me.
With the wave now subsiding and already having received a good soaking, I unhooked the flounder took a quick measurement and released it. I also packed up the remainder of my gear and got of my perch in double quick time.
Guess, I'll just have to put this one down to experience and hope for better times ahead.
