Any Mackerel showing up yet?

#1 Post by christymax »

Hi fellas,
I've been out in Cork Harbour twice this week and didn't come across any mackerel. Anyone getting any or do you know when they generally start showing up? Mid May last year when I first started getting them.
Cheers

last year around South Dublin it was terrible seems to me they all ended up as pig feed,
never seen a year like it. Lets hope this year is a lot better.

I had three off the rocks in Belmullet two weeks ago. They showed up around this time in good numbers last year in the NW also. It does tend to be in the really deep water marks this early though, especially around headlands where there is some tidal flow - think they feed predominantly on plankton at this time of year.
