tips for beach fishing???

#1 Post by the smiley fella »

Hey.....

I was wondering could anyone share a few tips for beach fishing between skerries and wicklow... Im not really experienced at the fishing I've only ever fished for mackrel off the piers and thought it was time i branched out

I tried Greystones beach last saturday using lug and rag, not much joy only a few tiny little codling or whiting.

Am i using the wrong bait for fishing off the beaches or is it just too early???

Any hints and tips on bait and rigs would be much appreciated.....

Thanks for any help

JAY....

choice of bait is fine Jay

Try fishing a rising tide into darkness.

A lot of the east coast beaches are relatively shallow and may not see lots of fish or bigger fish move inshore in strong sunshine.

Try casting out different distances.
Dont be afraid to cast close inshore around high tide.

best thing you could do is join the SAI SAC or similar club

You would learn more in 1 session that we could write up here

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

Hi.

Cheers for the help.... i only got around to it last night but i fished ennerielly in wicklow.
Ive still alot to learn but i was quite happy with catching my first ever doggie

2 doggies in total and one extremely small whiting but i was happy that the journey wasnt a wasted one!!
we were using rag, sand eel and crab...

From what ive read, the smoothhounds are the ones to be going for so thats the next mission..

Thanks for your help

Jay :)
