Waterfoot Pier, Co Antrim, 4th April 2010

#1 Post by nobuzz »

People: Just Me

Duration: 18:00 - 22:00

Tide: Dropping.

Weather: Started nice, ended very breezy

Bait: Peeler, Sandeel, Mackeral, Black Lug

Rigs: 2 hook flapper (size 4 hooks) Pulley (Size 1/0)

Results: 1 flattie, 17 Pollack

Report: Arrived at the pier at about 6ish. Nobody else about either on the pier or the beach.

Set up with a peeler on a size 1/0 pulley rig and black lug on the flapper rig.

First cast with the peeler resulted in a massive bite after only about 20 minutes! Obviously I missed the bite. The crab was totally mullered!

That was the only action until it started to get dark at about 20:00.

First up was a wee flounder on the lug. After that I was getting plenty of bites on the lug but none stuck. I changed over to sandeel on the other rod and started to get bites on it too.

After the first flattie the wind started to pick up and made bite indication a bit of a problem.

I therefore abandoned casting and started to fish down the side of the pier. I was rewarded with 17 small pollack (all about 15 - 25cm).

I saw the rain coming so I packed up early (had intended to stay until at least 12:00).

Well, thats the season started!
