wicklow beach 1-04-10

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me

Duration:8pm-1-30am

Tide:out and stayed out

Weather:nice enough,no wind,car windows frozen up later

Bait:juicy lug,mack,squid

Rigs:2 hook flappers

Results:codling, whiting, rockling, doggie

Report:Got to the mark and could park up due to the fact that someone had helpfully sawed through a white post(hint hint!!),,a few steps later (hint hint!!) i was set up with my 2 rods offering 4 juicy lug baits between them. It was a lovely night but no real surf running, too calm. I got a whiting on the first cast, i havent had one in ages but in saying that I wasnt kissing him like a long lost friend. As darkness fell I was getting fish on most casts, mostly small whiting and codling ,biggest codling about 25cms, so at least I was getting fish but where were all the schoolies   .I started to get that feeling I last had in Spain in 1982 when I travelled 150miles by thumb and Donkey cart to Tarifa after this Spanish girl i met and when I got there I was told she had left the day before   .Had I missed the bus!!They'll arrive later on I told myself ,its early yet  The only one who arrived was Fishface for a chat and to give me some badly needed supplies of hooks, line, links etc he got for me in Gerrys of Morecambe. He wasnt fishing but just to be polite I let him have a cast of my rod and (I knew it would happen   ) ,,he got a doggie on his 1 and only cast.I did move it when I saw a bite so i'm laying a part claim as i re-positioned the bait.At least he didnt get a bass, that would have been too much for me to bear   .When he left I settled back to catching more small codling, whiting,,,,some doubles ,and even a 5 beard rockling, lots of fish but all small. I wasnt cold at all but the windows were iced over when i got back to the car,,,,,,I left at 1-30am having decided to let the bass off the hook till another time.Didnt bother with photos as lads will only moan i'm giving the small fish marks away too easy,,,,,,,,,,but heres Fishfaces doggie  . I got home at 2-45am and the strange thing was they were all still up ,and watching Judge Judy     and they were calling me mad for being out on a beach fishing till all hours

Hi Eyesreilly, good report and good catch. I haven't caught a doggie in ages! I managed to get a couple of hrs in on that beach this afternoon. Think high tide was about 3 ish??? There was adecent surf running but the water was fairly brackish and the sun was out (it was bucketing rain about an hr before I got there. Not much happening, got one small schoolie at distance, rag for bait.

Judge Judy  ...few hrs fishing :D ....no contest!!!
