hello and a quick wee question

Hey folks,
First message really, have never posted much before even tho ive signed into here nearly 3months! Just really saying a hello and that up until now ive really just considered myself an armchair fisherman, albeit unrepentent macky basher! really hope to put more time into it this year.
Wife is just about to have our second in a few days (due the 10th april) and shes let me have a night off whilst on paternity leave. Was thinking what to do and choice was the bar or maybe casting a line......think i'll be needing to save a bit of cash so the fishing won
Was wondering if anyone could suggest a place to go for a couple of hours peace? Based in Ballynahinch Co. Down so would need to be co.down coast so im not too far away....
Also was thinking about a bit of bait, want to give digging a few worms ago. On fieldwork, ive noticed plenty of lugworm casts around islandhill just outside of Newtownards, but as far as i know its a national trust stretch. is it ok to dig there or is there some sort of protection on the shore?

Hi there .

You can dig lug worm just south of Newtownards in the lough where there are no "no go " areas. However it is a conservancy area at Island Hill and you may be cautioned if caught digging there as others have been in the past.

You could try fishing at Donaghadee harbour or Orlock point where there is easy access. If you wait a month or so mackerel and pollock will show well at Ardglass off rocks beside golf club
Strap conger are caught off Portavogie harboour especailly after waste fish is dumped following market.
