Scales for boat fishing

I’m back with another one for ye lads

While I know its near Impossible to find the real weight of a fish on a boat that's raising and falling due to swell action, is there any type of scale that would give me a rough idea of the weight of fish while out,

I tried to weigh a Pollock last summer and the digital scale started to jump from 8lb+ to 12lb+ needless to say it was fair bumpy at the time,

Would a spring scale be any better at giving me a rough estimate,

even on a really flat calm day both your digital and spring scales will fluctuate hence the reason the specimen fish committee will not recognise a specimen weighed on a boat. i do normally round it up

Hi Brian,

Ya I was thinking about that, but what about old style scales, you know the type, long bar weights on one side fish on the other and a fair bit of dancing around trying to keep them level,

I might make one up to see how it acts while out.. Thinking about it I cant see why it wouldn’t work as it will be going up and down at the same speed… and if it don’t work well then I can use the weights as sinkers
