Whats this boat worth?

#1 Post by shamoo0804 »

Been keeping an eye out for a boat for 6 months or so now I'm not in an immediate hurry, so am waiting for that elusive recession bargain to pop up.

Had toyed with the idea of spending just a couple of grand, but there seems to much junk around at that value, so think its best to up my budget a bit.

So just wanting a few opinions on what you guys think this may be worth.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0382845571

I've contacted the seller, who says they think its around an 06 model hull and engine (but havent confirmed this to be true) and no service history for the engine.

3 previous owners.

I'd say its a bit rich at their ebay price, what do you reckon guys?

to get a better idea of the market i watch done deal and boats and outboards in england. some good deals at the moment here on done deal have seen those boats go for 4000 grand recently . to give you an idea of the offers there is a pinnacle 30ft with twin diesel perkins engines in glamorgan all the equipment 5000 sterling thats the asking price you could sail that back here . on done deal there seems to be a lot down in wexford for sale. so just tap in fishing boats wexford and have a look .

Whilst I appreciate the replies lads, I'm just looking for some informed opinions on this particular boat and its value for money.

I wouldn't offer more than 2000 Euro cash max. IMHO it isn't a sellers market anymore. The good times are over and everything else is wishful thinking. Sorry, but that's reality.

Caz, I presume the difference in price is maybe because the engine on that donedeal boat is a 1994.

The engine on the ebay link above is a 2006.

Thanks lads for the comments, I'll see is there some serious haggling that can be done

http://www.seahog.co.uk/Seajeep.htm new sea hogs out of the wrapper are 4995 sterling so you would be looking at a new package 6995 with engine. that doesent inlude any equipment. what im saying is there are much better fishing boats to be had for that type of money

Hi twinkle,

Yeh I'd seen what the seejeep's are new, but by the time you factor in an engine, trailer, extras etc you'd soon be spending 8/9k, which is way over my budget.

the site says they do a budget package with used engines send an e mail and enquire what the package is my self personaly would be looking at some thing a bit more for that sort of money i seen a lovely shetland as new on a trailer never been in the water offered for 3 grand .if i also remember rightly before christmas a marine company in cork were selling boats that were 10000 last summer for 5000 cash at christmas. heres one that sold earlier http://www.donedeal.ie/for-sale/boats/1196669 bit of a difference

Thanks twinkle,

Again though, the engine on that ad looks very, very dated.

I dont like the seahog trio, the cabin impeeds to much on the rear deck space for my liking, my preference would be for something like the seajeep or the shortie in the ebay link above.

As I said, its all well and good saying you can get a new boat for 5k, but thats bog standard model, add all the extras and its starts to look big money by comparison to a 4/5/6 year old boat - guess I'll keep searching, the right boat will pop up soon enough.

The engine is very important. A 1994 one is likely to have a lot of miles on it. I would definitely go for a more recent engine. The boat on its own will be cheap enough. If the engine has to be replaced it could cost you quite a bit.

Thanks Stan,

I know these things are a matter of opinion, but I was kind of thinking along the same lines as you.

There are loads of boats out there for sale in the 2-4k bracket, but with old engines and whilst I'm sure lots of those engines are still going strong there is a greater chance they will go wrong and need replacing in the near future, making an initially cheap boat not so cheap in the long run.

an out board doesent really get much use there not like cars. most boats are lucky to get out once or twice a week during the season and if the weather is against you on the day your off you cant go. the reason most are sold is beause
the wife is sick of it in the drive. my point being my boat came with an 83 engine 40 hp yamaha.when all the tests were done on it compression ect the guys who done it told me that they had seen newer engines in worse shape. you can buy
any engine any year once its not abused and has been tested you should have no problems .alot of the time these engines are gathering dust in someones garage so by the time its 10yrs old it might have been in the water 100 times thats not much ware on an outboard especialy a 50 to 75hp that can push most boats

an engine that is used every day that has hundreds of hours clocked up, would be a better buy than an enging run a couple of times and left in a garage gathering dust for a few years.

I agree that engines like to be used but would still feel happier buying a 2006 engine than an 1983 engine.

my point being just because an engine is only 4yrs old doesent mean you wont get trouble if it hasent been looked after

True but I think that we are going around in circles here. If the engine is clean and sounds good on a long run out to sea then I would feel fairly safe buying it. However, I would still try to buy the newest engine possible.
