braid on a multiplier

I have a 10ft lure rod but i do like spinning with a 6ft ugly stick and a small shimano multiplier.I plan on loading the fixed spool with braid and was wondering would i be wise to do the same with the multi?

I would say yes. However, I am a newbie to the forum and have yet to acquaint myself with modern saltwater lure fishing!

I have two low-profile baitcasting multipliers that I use for lure fishing for pike and both are loaded with braid, (power pro). The main advantages, (as with braid on fixed spool reels) being more sensitivity when working the lure and a stronger strength to diameter ratio compared to mono. For piking I use fixed spools loaded with braid when I need extra casting distance, as baitcasters do not cast as far as a fixed spool. I don't know how the distance of (non-baitcasting) multipliers is affected by braid, if that is what you will be using. Another thing is that many writers state that braid loaded multipliers are more prone to bird nests and tangles. I personally have not found this to be a major issue, at least if you have used a multiplier before. By the way they use braid loaded baitcasters for saltwater lure fishing in the states on a regular basis. I plan to use a fixed spool 4000 sized for my bassing as most of the experienced bass anglers seem to recommend these and I prefer the slightly longer and lighter bass fixed spool lure rods rather than traditional baitcasting rods.

As I said I have not tried multipliers with braid in saltwater myself, but hopefully some of the more experienced guys will be able to help out.

the 6 ft rod is designed for lures around an ounce ? there is a finger grip for casting which means you cant fit a fixed spool on it . ive used multipliers for many years so birds nests shouldnt be a problem,and the reel has mag brakes. ill go with the braid and see how it goes

ive to get a new fixed spool myself and was looking at stradic 4000 and was even thinkin that was a bit heavy and was thinkin of buyin the 3000.
maybe i should get the 4000. is that the general size used?
my local tackle shop sells them for €120 which seems reasonable.

Well I purchased a 4000 size Shimano Technium which is lighter than some of the other 4000 size Shimanos. However, some people say there is an issue with the braid cutting into the bail arm (just before the roller) on the Technium. I just make sure the line is in the roller before retrieving anyway, but it seems a popular reel, at least with the U.K. lads. A friend of mine in the U.S. has got me a U.S. Stradic 4000 dirt cheap (completely different from the European version), so we shall see how that is. It's a good idea to go to the Shimano website and compare the reels because as I said the Technium 4000 is lighter than even the 3000 Exage for example.

Anyway, I'm sure the lads here will have loads of views and good advice on this one. If they don't check this perhaps you could start another thread on the fixed spool question.

The idea of braid on a multiplyer is great but in reality it dosent work for several reasons namely with it being such a fine diameter it tends to dig into its self making casting difficult another reason is when it digs in and you go to cast you get a jumpy spool which can lead to overruns and that will be a costly birds nest .Best option get yourself some good quality mono eg stren ,suffix, and enjoy .

good point, i didnt think of that.
im happy enough usin it with mono at the moment i just thought the braid may help with the lighter lures, maybe ill just use the 10ft for them.
