Who: Myself
Time: 14.30 - 18.30
Weather: Sunny, bit of a breeze
Tide: On the drop, with bit of a surf
Bait: Rag
Results: 2 micro whiting, 1 codling, 1 small bass
Got down to the beach bout 14.30 and there was another angler packing up as I was arriving. Don't know whether he faired any better. The sun was out and the tide was dropping so I wasn't expecting much.
First couple of casts resulted in a couple of micro whiting. The appetite of these fish never fails to amaze me. I was using size 2/0 hooks and they weren't mush bigger than the hook themselves! Nothing else for about an hr or so and then the codling. As you can see.....he's a whopper!!
Shortly after catching the codling the tip of the rod started ratling. Reeled in and the bait was savaged but no fish. This kept happening for a couple of casts and I thought maybe it was crabs. Happened one more time and reeled in to see the small bass. He had managed to foul hook himself just above the eye socket. Lucky for him I had debarbed the hook earlier on so the it came out with little or no apparent damage. Again no monster, but hopefully some of his bigger cousins will make an appearance soon.
Had a fair bit of bait left over so hope to get out again this evening.

Nice to see the bass showing up John. I fished there last Tuesday with lug and rag. I only managed a tiny flounder on the rag the whole night. Lug out fished it by miles with a small bass taken and a load of codling.

Hi lads. Lug would have been my first choice but rag was all they had in the local shop. Had planned to dig some lug Sat morning but the night before laid that plan to rest
. Weird how the two can outfish each other at different spots. Ya got a love the whiting, they have no fear!

Hey cw1
I was packing up when you arrived. I had a 6 codling, 2 whiting & 3 rockling. Lug was the bait of choice with 2 hook flappers. I'll post photos shortly. A good session on Sat as I have blanked the last few times in Greystones.
