not a ling - 5 bearded rockling is most likely what you've been catching. there are loads of them around off the beaches down here. As you've been told in your other post on the subject, unlikely to see many flounder at this time of year. It'll pick up in a few weeks for them.

Hi Zoltan,

Just to echo the Scotsman, you're almost certainly catching either three- or five-bearded rockling. There's a picture below of one if you want to compare. Right now, it seems that surf beaches along the south coast are a bit of a desert; this should improve in the next few weeks as the water warms up.

Best,
Lodore

Hi All,
thanks for your reply.
the fish i catch look same, but not dark, nearly silver. It has 2 beard, one on the top of his mouth and one on the bottom... Both in the middle...
Are you sure is it a rockling?

Thanks

well, given where you are fishing I'd still say a rockling, and most probably a five beard - there have been loads of them around on the beaches. two beards though - are you sure they weren't just retracted? Some of the rockling I caught were quite pale in colour and I had to run my finger over them to check for 5 beards...

hi zoolio,
i met you down in east cork last week with peter, they were rockling you caught. i had a good few of them the same night. not sure if they were 3 beard or 5 beard tho. you need to gently rub them and the other beard/barbs come out.

they are everywhere at the moment. i had over 20 a few weeks ago in west cork. thanks very much too for the rag, their still alive in the fridge :D .
denis.
