Who:Me
Time: 6 pm to 8.30 pm
Tide: Rising i think
Weather: lovely, calm, mild
Bait: mack and lug
Rigs: two hook flapper, hook size, 1/0 ? i think
Results: Two dab, 1 very small codling, All returned

First proper time out since december. Got a brand new rod from dave at tackle shop in courtown. V. sad to hear skipper mick redmond passed away...lovely guy, a real gent.

had 10 m of 40lb shock leader on the line, used albright knot, which worked well for me before
however every second cast, knot got snagged on eyes so ended up with spagehtti tangle. (any advice here?)
Snipped off the leader and started again, plenty of action on the line with quite a few nibbles, not too many caught as you can see. I think the hook was a bit big for a 1/0, more like a 2/0
(bought the rig online). I suspect smaller hook would have had more fish caught.
Great to get out again looking forward to easter break.

Hi Paddymac,

I use the half hitch grinner knot for tying the main line to leader. Make sure to trim the tag ends right down. Never caused me any grief tangle wise. Not sure what set up/weight you were using but perhaps you may have to much leader on the reel. I'd only ever put on about one and a half times the length of the rod I'm using.

reduce your hooks down to 2's or 4's and your hookup rate will rise

thanks John

forgive my rookie questions...... but

2/0 is bigger than 1/0 is that correct?

and a 1 is small than a 1/0 and they go down in size as you ascend, thus 2 smaller than 1 etc?
