multipliers

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

the 7ht mag 525mag xtra an abu 6500mag all with heavy oil not 2 much line and full mags all fairly user friendly although for an abslute beginner the daiwa slosh with say 20lb mono is near impossible to birdy with a bit of practice. steer clear of the abu hi speed red as its fairly fast

Its defo not the slosh 20 they can be a pig to get used to, Id reccomend the Diawa 7ht mag but it comes at quite a price, the next best is the penn 525 mag extra. Start at full mags with 3/4 spool of line and you should pick up controling it pretty quick.

Daiwa 7HT (the old one). Very user friendly indeed, and can put a bait a fair distance. Plus John Keane has one for sale for €60 -

abu 6500 mag its got centrafugel brakes and also mag brakes, nearly impossible to birdie if set up right, start of using the magnets at full on and see how you get on.then back them of as you get used to using the reel, fill the spool to about three quarters full until you get used to the reel.good luck

my first multi was a green abu 6500. i loaded it with 20lb line and set everything high to slow it down.
the biggest nest i got was pretty easy to untangle in less than a minute.

Daiwa 7 ht mag is birdie proof when the mags are turned up,
even Fintan gets away with it :D

Stay away from the sl 20 at the start
get out and try as many as you can before you decide
your more than welcome to try my 7 ht mags, think I might have some 6500s around to

Any mag multiplier that's set up properly will see you birdie free!

Things to consider if you're a new user would be to keep the spool float to a minimum preventing the spool running too freely, Mags on full and .35mm line with the spool slightly underfilled. Ensure an even line lay too and you'll be sorted.

Multi's are very easy to use once you set them up correctly starting off.
Buy one for handy money to get you started and you'll be sorted in no time.

Hope that helps.

slosh 20 is definatly not a good starting off reel..as everyone is saying get a magged reel and put the mags on full...its hard to birdy like that

whatever you buy i would leave a good 5mm to 1cm down from the spool lip. should still have more than enough line left for fishing and a good cast will still fly out. it will also help when chucking into a strong wind. get a cut lenght of bike tubing for your thumb to grip the reel spool when casting too. makes a big difference when getting used to things. enjoy and stick at it. multipliers can be a labour of love to begin with :)

advantages of a multi = a few extra yards and you think you are a better fisherman
disadvantages of a multi= birdsnests  you cant use braid unless you are really brave, your stuck with one spool :!: slower retreave =less fishing time
if you think your gonna cast miles cos you have a multi think again ,its down to how you cast not what reel you have .
i use multi and fspool but if i was told i could only have one or tuther i think fixed spool would stay on my rod
one thing i like about multi,s is taking them apart and putting them back together 8) something i wouldnt do with a fixed spool
