Me
3.30 - 8pm
High tide was 3.20
Calm, cold, windless, cloudless
Lug/mackeral
2 hook flappers, blinging flattie rig
Result: One codling and frostbite.
Wanted some peace and quiet so decided to go for a casual fish and sit. It took a more serious note when I arrived in viking tackle Bray to find they had no lug. Still managed to spend €20 on things I didn't need but sure I was there already. Drove to Dun Laoighre and picked up 40 lug, then drove out to Greystones. High Carbon foot print on these lug because I started my journey in Rathfarnham. Got to the steps it was sunny but very cold. There were two lads there, they'd been there for 2 hours and hadn't a bite. They had only mack for bait so I wasn't too worried. They packed up soon enough, they obviously had better things to be doing on a Saturday night than me! Had to rods out a couple of small knocks every so often, the whiting harassing me I presume. Reeled in one rod to re-bait to find a codling the size of a fish finger. That was it! I got too cold and packed it in. I was surprised out how little action there was after dark to be honest. Started to snow as I was leaving it was seriously cold.

try not to fish that spot on the drop, its not great there, its shallow enough there at low water. try south beach greystones the next time your in that area at low waterCormdogg wrote:Started to snow as I was leaving it was seriously cold.

unlucky man. the fishing is slowing down everywhere. we tried 3 marks last night ourselves before we got a single fish to beat the blank

Re: Greystones Steps 20/2/10
Id have tried a packet of wraps (frozen lug) there going well at the moment, would have saved a fortune in feul
Ive got a lot of faith in Mackeral on its own as a front line bait, have had good flounders and half decent coalies, codling and whiting on straight mac this year.Still though its hard to beat the confidence of getting a few fish with some nice juicy fresh worms in your bait bucket.
