I've only started fishing in the last few months, and most of this has been off piers and the like's. And i've been doing pretty well so far, but whats really catching me out is my casting, so when i fish the beaches i'm pretty much stuffed! My main problem is that my casts are going up in the air rather than out to sea, so the distance is poxy!
Am i just letting the line go too early or could it be something else??
The gear i'm using is a Sandstorm fixed spool, and mostly a 4-5 ounce weight.
Thanks for any advice ya can throw my way, cheers

Was going to say that too Congo, is Boycie not showing you how to cast properly? You should join the east coast raiders, we have some very good casters and im sure dennis or kstaff will point you in the right direction.

Re: Need a little help with casting
Could be a few things but try going slower and lenghten the drop from tip to lead to half way down the rod. Punch up with you right and pull down with the left arm. Make sure you don't hav etto heavy a line on the reel too, .35mm 15lb is ideal.

Re: Need a little help with casting
Ah well boycie likes the piers alot more than the beaches so i'm usually on the beach on my tobler! And he's had alot of patience with me and shown me everything so far, along with gibbo and anto. And i dont like to be hassling people all the time.
I have 15lb line on the reel at the moment Staff, but i'll give that technique a go in the morning, I've been leaving alot less length between the lead and the tip.
Thinks i'll have to get along to a sportscast too! Sounds like the plan, just once rodbuilder doesnt start casting lumps of grass at me!
But i dont think i'd be ready for any of that fancy pendulum casting, probably lose an eye or 2!
Thanks alot for that lads, i really appreciate the help, i'll let ya's know how i get on anyway, cheers
