Lough Foyle SAC Master Angler 1st Leg

#1 Post by Ronan »

People: 9 Anglers

Duration: 14.00 - 18.00

Tide: Over high water then down

Weather: Pretty cold but dry

Bait: Everything

Rigs: Everything

Results: Flounder, Turbot, Coalie, Whiting (Over 50 Fish)

Report: We kicked off our first Master Angler as a club on Culdaff Beach last sunday. Conditions were perfect but there was a bit of a rip with the filling tide. We decided that because of the time of year and the prospect of little fish then we would count undersize as 5 points. Things started off well will a few undersize fish being caught. Most fish on the day were undersize but John Shiels managed a 32cm flounder and Gary Irwin had one at 29cm and there was also a few flounder in the low 20's. Kevin Barber was leading the beach with alot of undersized fish and he ended up with 13. At the closing stages i thought Kevin had won it and i thought that i would have got a second or third place with 9 fish but as everyone came up to the car park i soon learn that Sean Ivory the jammy git clinched first place with a counting coalie and whiting on his last cast. With over 50 fish caught it ended up as follows.........

Sean Ivory 1st with 88 points
Kevin Barber 2nd with 82 points
John Shiels 3rd with 56 points
Ronan Mc Monagle 4th with 45 points
Gary Irwin 5th with 39 points
David Burnside and Mathew Mc Cullagh(Junior) joint 6th with 20 points
John Rooney 7th with 5 points
Paul Le Clerco 8th with no points

Looking forward to Benone for our second leg on the 21st 8)

Well done Sean and Kevin.
UP THE DEISE!!!!!!!

If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Nice one Ronan,

That coalie/whiting special trace that I flicked out for the last cast really did the business!

Well run comp and a pleasure to fish with the lads.

A special well done to young Matthew Mc Cullagh for beating a few of the adults!
I require a tremendous amount of calcium

species for 2010 (27)
species for 2011 (12)
species for 2012 (8)
best advice for catching species is girls dont like fishing and its hard to catch fish when you sell all your gear'
